Gisteren is een staakt-het-vuren aangekondigd in Libanon. Dit is hoopvol nieuws! Dit biedt gezinnen de kans om hun leven weer op te bouwen. Toch is er nog een lange weg te gaan … Sinds eind september zijn bijna 4000 mensen omgekomen en meer dan een miljoen kinderen en gezinnen gevlucht uit hun huizen. Ook zijn huizen, ziekenhuizen en belangrijke infrastructuur beschadigd en kunnen veel kinderen niet naar school omdat hun klaslokalen zijn omgebouwd tot noodopvang. "Heel Libanon hoopt dat dit staakt-het-vuren blijft, zodat de meer dan 1 miljoen vluchtelingen veilig naar huis kunnen terugkeren. Maar we weten ook dat de wederopbouw jaren zal duren," zegt Heidi Diedrich, Nationaal Directeur van World Vision in Lebanon. World Vision East Africa is glad to have hosted a 3-day bi-regional #AnticipatoryAction Learning event, bringing together participants from World Vision East Africa and World Vision Middle East & Eastern Europe to learn from shared success and challenges addressed in the implementation of AA projects in the two regions: World Vision Kenya, World Vision South Sudan, World Vision Ethiopia, World Vision Iraq, World Vision Syria Response, and World Vision in Lebanon.    “Effective Anticipatory Action requires coordinated effort to learn and exchange how we can better coordinate such interventions. We need to work together as stakeholders to identify those triggers, develop action plans that are required for us to implement and effectively mobilize resources. Together we can build a more resilient future for the vulnerable communities that we serve in our respective regions.” Our regional leader, Lilian Dodzo, in her opening remarks highlighted the importance of stakeholders working together to building a more resilient future for the vulnerable communities we serve across the two regions.  The event inspired reflections on valuable lessons learned, emphasizing the power of collaboration with local partners and meaningful stakeholder engagement in diverse contexts. It aimed to forge actionable recommendations for future collaborations while strengthening a vibrant culture of learning and sharing across the partnership. Together, they explored transformative opportunities for upscaling and innovation. This learning forum underscores our commitment to strengthening community capacity to mitigate the impact of recurrent disasters in East Africa and the Middle East through anticipatory action.   #AnticipatoryAction #Collaboration #WVImpact

In August, we warned what could happen if the conflict in Lebanon escalated. Months later, the impact on children and families is even worse than we feared. Our teams are on the ground, working tirelessly to try to meet the growing needs of those impacted by the conflict. World Vision in Lebanon

It happened and it ended. The hardwork starts today - to make sure violations of the IHL never happen again, to still meet the needs of the people who have lost almost everything, and help them recover from this devastating war. But most importantly, to ensure that the impact of war on children is contained. Children are the future of 🇱🇧. This is the time to work hard to ensure that our children go back to schools and are mentally and physically healthy.

In 1954, World Children's Day was established to promote unity and improve children's welfare worldwide. Now in Lebanon, children are enduring immense hardships, repeated displacement, airstrikes, and the devastating impacts of death and injuries. 1 in 5 children are now displaced with their families.
