Happy Oceans Day 2024! We at Earthlanka are thrilled to share the success of our underwater cleanup and poster campaign at Uppuveli, Trincomalee, held in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Turtle Conservation Project and Taprobane Divers. This year's theme, "Catalyzing Action for Our Ocean & Climate," inspired us to come together and make a tangible difference. We collected 74 kg of debris from the ocean, including ghost nets, glass bottles, plastics, polythene, and even a pincer! It's shocking to see what ends up in our beautiful oceans. Remember, the ocean is not your dustbin. Special thanks to our sponsors and volunteers for their incredible support. With the climate crisis upon us, it's crucial that we take immediate action to protect our planet. Together, we can achieve a healthy, sustainable future. #OceansDay2024 #Earthlanka #TurtleConservationProject #TaprobaneDivers #OceanCleanup #ClimateAction #SaveOurOceans #Sustainability

World Ocean Day : For 2024, a new multi-year action theme: Catalyzing Action for Our Ocean & Climate. By growing the movement through transformative collaboration. Together with Marine Environment Protection Authority We celebrated World Ocean Day with underwater clean up held in locations of Dutch Bay, Swami Rock, and North Reef in Trincomalee. On this memorable day, we sent our dive teams to support Kalpitiya Diving Centre, Taprobane Diving Centre, and Pigeon Island Diving Centre for this collaborative effort. Together, we collected 605 kg of waste, including nets, plastic, polythene, metal, and cloths, from our precious marine environment. This incredible effort was coordinated by the @MEPARegional Office of Trincomalee and generously supported by Clean Ocean Force Lanka , Turtle Conservation Program, Section F of the SLAAS, Life saving Sri Lanka Police and diving centers. Their support made this crucial initiative possible, highlighting the power of community and collaboration in protecting our oceans.

Clean Ocean Force Lanka, together with Earth Lanka Youth Network and the Young Biologists Association of Sri Lanka, recently participated in a workshop in #Ahmadabad, #India, hosted by the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) India, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and WWF-India. This unique event brought together various partner associations from India, Sri Lanka & #Bangladesh for knowledge sharing and training on "The Tide Turners Plastic Challenge program." During the workshop, groundwork was laid for launching the "TIDE TURNERS PLASTIC CHALLENGE" (TTPC) program in Sri Lanka, aimed at youth, with UNEP certification. Clean Ocean Force Lanka, Earth Lanka, and the YBA will collaborate closely to implement this program, which includes recognizing and celebrating Sri Lanka's youth environmental champions through a certification and accreditation process—a first of its kind in the country. This initiative underscores Clean Ocean Force's belief in the power of partnerships, both locally and internationally, to drive meaningful change and empower youth to become leaders in environmental conservation. Together, these organizations are committed to making a tangible difference in combating plastic pollution and fostering a new generation of environmental leaders.
