A family in Dehiyaththakandiya sets out every morning to collect, process, and supply charcoaled coconut shells, the origins of an amazing story of value. Initially, the open pit charcoaling process threatened to affect the surroundings, but that's where Haritha Angara, Haycarb's innovative green charcoaling outreach project, came in. It brought environmentally friendly charcoaling into rural communities, transforming this husband-wife duo into entrepreneurs. Multiply this one small family by 20,000 to see the impact: the origins of many of Hayleys' premium export products, like activated carbon, lie in the grassroots of Sri Lanka—grassroots that rely on inclusive business models to make lives better.
