🎉 Today, May 29, a special commemorative stamp was issued by the Sri Lanka Post to celebrate IWMI's 40th anniversary, and four decades of partnership with Sri Lanka. The Prime Minister, Dinesh Gunawardena, visited IWMI's global headquarters in Colombo and received the first stamp. 💧 Since 1984, IWMI has contributed to shaping water management practices in Sri Lanka and the world. In the last 40 years, IWMI has grown in scale, impact and areas of research — from an institute focused on water for agriculture to a global leader in integrated water management. Looking forward, IWMI will continue to contribute to Sri Lanka's water security and climate goals. #OneCGIAR #40YearsinSriLanka #WaterSecurity

Droughts don’t wait—neither should we. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and IWMI have joined forces to launch the Pakistan Drought Management System (PakDMS), a cutting-edge platform providing real-time drought insights across Pakistan. 💡 What’s new? ✅ Real-time drought monitoring ✅ User-friendly dashboards for actionable insights ✅ Integration of multiple data sources for comprehensive analysis This tool empowers stakeholders—from policymakers to farmers—to make informed decisions, plan effectively, and mitigate risks. 🎉 Celebrating Progress Last week, in Islamabad, PakDMS was officially handed over to PMD for operational use. But this is just the beginning. Based on stakeholder feedback, we’ll continue refining the tool to ensure sustainable drought management. 💧 Women are key water users across agriculture, livestock, industry, and households, yet their role in water management remains limited, and rural Pakistan is no exception to this. The intersection of water, climate, and gender disparities highlights the need for inclusive solutions. 🤝 Through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office's #WRAP Programme, Gender and Social Inclusion (#GESI) is being integrated into water resource projects to bridge these gaps. 📢 Last week, IWMI hosted a workshop with key stakeholders—agriculture and irrigation departments, PODA, BARI, and the University of Chakwal. Through training, group exercise and presentations, the workshop resulted in: ✅ A deeper understanding of GESI’s role in sustainable water management. 🛠️ Practical tools to embed GESI principles into projects. This is a crucial step toward ensuring women and marginalized groups lead in building a water-secure future. #OneCGIAR

🌍💧 Empowering Water Security with Earth Observation Data 🚀 38 participants from 19 organizations in Zambia assembled at a training workshop on "Accessing and Using Earth Observation Data Layers and Products in Digital Earth Africa" from February 4-7, 2025 in Lusaka. Organized by the IWMI's Digital Innovations for Water Secure Africa (#DIWASA) initiative in collaboration with Digital Earth Africa, the training was an invaluable opportunity to unlock the potential of earth observation tools for addressing pressing water security challenges. 💧🌱 Key Highlights included: 🔹 Hands-On Training: Participants accessed the Digital Earth Africa Sandbox to visualize and interpret critical data layers. 🔹 Skill Building: Focused sessions on Python programming and data analysis enhanced technical capabilities for practical decision-making. 🔹 Real-World Applications: Participants worked on case studies including water balance analysis, crop yield monitoring, and drought monitoring. Follow-up webinars will continue to support participants' efforts, offering access to #DIWASA products and indicators on the DE Africa platform. A big thanks to the training facilitators: IWMI's Alemseged Tamiru Haile, and Mirriam Makungwe (PhD), DE Africa's Kenneth Mubea and The University Of Zambia (UNZA)'s Pathias Lubinga. Congratulations to all participants for their dedication to driving sustainable water solutions with cutting-edge technology! 💻🔍 The Helmsley Charitable Trust | Abdulkarim-H.
