Road Safety Action International (RSAI) is proud to announce that Benedict Wonder Dargbeh, the organization’s Deputy Director for Policy and Advocacy, has commenced a two-year Master’s program in Sustainable Urban Mobility.
His participation in this program has been made possible through the EIT Urban Mobility Master School with funding from the European Union as well as ROAD SAFETY ACTION INTERNATIONAL (RSAI) Capacity Development Pathway Funding. This represents a significant milestone for both Benedict and RSAI, as it is part of a broader strategy to build the leadership capacity needed to champion sustainable mobility and road safety initiatives globally.
Benedict’s chosen program, which follows a dual university-track, will take him to two renowned academic institutions: the University Polytechnic of Catalonia in Barcelona and KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden. These universities are at the forefront of research and innovation in sustainable urban mobility, providing Benedict with access to cutting-edge knowledge and practical expertise. The curriculum is designed to explore unconventional urban design solutions such as car-free zones, bike lanes, and pedestrian-friendly thoroughfares—concepts that are being increasingly adopted in cities worldwide as part of a broader movement toward environmentally sustainable transport systems.
Benedict’s goal throughout this academic journey is to critically examine how these modern, sustainable urban mobility concepts can be adapted and applied to developing nations where RSAI operates. Many cities in Africa and other parts of the world are grappling with inadequate infrastructure and high levels of traffic fatalities, and RSAI plays a pivotal role in addressing these challenges. Benedict aims to leverage the insights he gains from his studies to develop practical, context-sensitive solutions for improving road safety and mobility Africa, where RSAI is actively engaged. By focusing on the potential for integrating environmentally-friendly urban mobility systems in developing regions, he hopes to contribute to sustainable development goals and enhance road safety.
The entire RSAI team is excited about this next phase of Benedict’s professional development. His participation in this Master’s program not only aligns with RSAI’s vision of developing a new generation of leaders but also stands to benefit the broader mission of the organization. RSAI looks forward to the valuable insights and innovations Benedict will bring back, which will undoubtedly play a role in shaping future strategies aimed at promoting safer, more sustainable transportation solutions. Benedict’s dedication and vision continue to inspire, and the RSAI team extends its best wishes for his success in this program.
