🎗️ A powerful start for an impactful initiative! Last week in Riga, together with our partners Longenesis, we proudly launched a new cervical cancer risk assessment tool. This milestone event brought together industry experts, stakeholders, and our dedicated colleagues to introduce an innovation that empowers people with knowledge and resources to prevent cervical cancer. “This initiative reflects our commitment to providing people with the knowledge and resources to prevent cervical cancer, one of the most preventable but devastating diseases. By combining innovative technology and science, we want to not only raise awareness and early diagnosis but also provide hope for families and the society in general" said Armen Manukian, MSD Baltics Managing director. Representing MSD Baltics at the launch discussion was Ilze Strode, alongside other team members who have contributed their ideas and support from day one. 📍 Last week began with an important focus on cervical cancer awareness. To recognize January as Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, a conference titled “Elimination of Cervical Cancer and Reduction of Human Papillomavirus Diseases in Men and Women – Mission Possible?” was held at the Lithuanian Parliament. We are inspired by the dedication of the organizers, who brought together a diverse group of experts and decision-makers to discuss the urgent changes needed and assess the current situation in Lithuania. Each year, cervical cancer claims the lives of 200 women in Lithuania, impacting patients, their families, and society as a whole. This is why raising awareness about prevention and early diagnosis is critical. At the conference, Thomas Hofmarcher presented findings from the IHE - The Swedish Institute for Health Economics report, “Cancer Dashboard for Lithuania - Women’s Cancers”. This comprehensive study sheds light on the state of women’s cancers in Lithuania and offers actionable recommendations for improvement. 🔎 We extend our gratitude to Saulius Čaplinskas and Pagalbos onkologiniams ligoniams asociacija (POLA) for their initiative in addressing this vital topic. The broad interest and engagement at the event demonstrate that we are moving in the right direction. Now, it’s time to act. 👏

Distressingly, cancers that are nearly exclusive to women – often called “women’s cancers” – account for 44% of all new cancer cases in the country. Among these, cervical cancer stands out as a pressing concern: Lithuania ranks sixth in incidence and third in mortality among EU countries. Both figures are alarmingly double the EU average, underscoring the urgent need for increased awareness, prevention, and improved healthcare outcomes. 📉 The latest report from IHE - The Swedish Institute for Health Economics reveals that Lithuanian women diagnosed with cancer face lower survival rates compared to the European average.
