❓ Curious to know how it’s made – A low carbon steel footbridge 👀 https://lnkd.in/defgckUn SOTTAS SA is building the first pedestrian footbridge in Switzerland made entirely of low carbon steel using ArcelorMittal's #XCarb® recycled and renewably produced heavy plates. This collaboration with SOTTAS SA is a milestone in sustainable construction, showcasing how innovative, low carbon solutions can meet demanding technical requirements while significantly reducing the environmental impact. The structure has been built in four separate welded sections with a total weight of 150 tonnes. It was lifted into place in one piece with a high-capacity 750 tonne crawler crane. The bridge is scheduled for completion in March 2025. ArcelorMittal Steligence - Antoine Gremaud - Frederic Marechal Credits video: SOTTAS SA

At ArcelorMittal, we believe that achieving net zero requires collaboration and innovation at every stage of the value chain. We’re thrilled to showcase the inspiring progress made by our client Dome Solar together with ValEnergies in integrating our low carbon-steel solutions into their photovoltaic installations. By utilizing recycled steel and renewable energy, we’ve collectively reduced the carbon footprint of this project threefold! With a capacity of 243 kWc in Gradignan, this installation will power 60 to 70 households, an example of impactful and sustainable innovation. 👇 Watch the video to discover how together, we’re creating a more sustainable future. #ArcelorMittal #Magnelis #XCarb #solar #pv

ArcelorMittal welcomed a number of high-profile guests to its steel plant in Gent, Belgium today. Hosted by ArcelorMittal Europe CEO Geert Van Poelvoorde, we discussed the state of the steel industry in Europe with Mrs Teresa Ribera, the European Commission’s Executive Vice-President for a Clean, Just and Competitive Transition and Mr Stéphane Séjourné, Executive Vice-President for Prosperity and Industrial Strategy. We were also delighted to welcome the Prime Minister of Belgium, Alexander De Croo, Flemish Minister-President Matthias Diependaele, the Mayor of Gent Mathias De Clercq, Alderman Sofie Bracke and a number of other guests. Together with other steelmakers in Europe, in recent months we have spoken out on a number of issues that are profoundly affecting our ability to competitively produce steel in Europe today: a record high in steel imports, driven by significant global overcapacity and weak trade defence; high energy costs; and climate policy that does not currently provide the level playing field we need, at a time when we need to invest significant capital to decarbonise our steelmaking assets. We would like to thank the Commissioners for coming to listen to us today. Putting the steel sector on their agendas for the first week in their new role is a positive sign and we hope that that this is the start of impactful change that will give us the sustainable future that we want for our European operations.

November 26 marked the first World Sustainable Transport Day 🚆 With sustainability at the forefront, we are proud to contribute to the decarbonisation of transport systems worldwide. Our new electric arc furnace (EAF) will constitute the first step towards low-carbon emissions steelmaking in Asturias. The new EAF, anticipated to produce its first heat in the first quarter of 2026, is set to achieve a CO2 emissions reduction of over 35%. Once the transition phase is complete, this could translate to a reduction of up to 1 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent annually. As rail transport continues to expand, ArcelorMittal is committed to providing durable, reliable, and sustainable materials driving progress towards net-zero goals. #Sustainability #RailInfrastructure #Decarbonisation #WorldSustainableTransportDay

On November 13th, Isabelle Swaegers, Scrap hub manager for ArcelorMittal Belgium, participated in Fabrieken voor de Toekomst’s recent conference on decommissioning wind turbines in Belgium. Entitled 'Decommissioning - Become a part of it.' the event gathered several companies and associations across the value chain to discuss decommissioning scenarios, repowering, and recycling of wind turbines. One of the key topics was investigating the recycling of complex components like blades (which include materials such as plastic, wood, and aluminum). Our representative delivered a speech spotlighting ArcelorMittal’s recycling initiatives and the innovative use of scrap in producing XCarb® steel. She also emphasized our groundbreaking collaboration with Vestas on constructing the world’s first offshore wind farm utilizing low-emission XCarb® heavy plates. The event will further enhance collaboration in Belgium among companies, the government, and associations, with the construction of a roadmap as the next key step. #XCarb #heavyplate #windenergy #offshorewind #lowcarbonsteel POM West-Vlaanderen De Blauwe Cluster (Blue Cluster) vzw
