#EMW2024 also saw the launch of the e-MFP paper 'Advancing Financial Inclusion for Refugees and Forcibly Displaced People: Insights from the European Microfinance Award 2024' - congrats and thanks to all involved. Please like and share!
Last week was #EMW2024, the culmination of a year of work on the topic of the European Microfinance Award - this year on 'Advancing Financial Inclusion for Refugees & Forcibly Displaced People'. The conference involves the Award ceremony of course (and congratulations to finalists Al Majmoua, FATEN and the winner, RUFI), and various sessions on different aspects of this most important and urgent subject. But EMW each year is also the launch of the e-MFP publication on the topic. Sharing the title with the Award itself, 'Advancing Financial Inclusion for Refugees & Forcibly Displaced People' is a piece of work of which my colleagues and I are really quite proud. It introduces the topic of displacement and its drivers, looks at the challenges faced by FDPs and the providers that seek to serve them, and then presents three broad ways (with practical examples taken from the 10 EMA semi-finalist case studies in the paper) that financial inclusion organisations can serve FDPs: 1. Designing and Delivering Services for FDPs; 2. Adapting Operations and Strategy; and 3. Changing the Context. It concludes with 'lessons learned' in the actual words of the applicant organisations, and then '8 insights on advancing the financial inclusion of FDPs' - the last part co-written by me and my @e-MFP colleagues. The point of this paper is to collate best practice and innovations in a place and format accessible for all kinds of financial inclusion stakeholders - whether they work in a displacement context or not. Displacement (including much that will be climate-driven) is going to be among the defining themes of the century ahead, and is inseparable from development and inclusion. My colleagues and I hope you get value out of this paper - a lot of sweat and time has gone into it. Please circulate it widely to those who will want to see it. Please download it here: https://lnkd.in/g7h5ggWJ Thanks!
