🌍 We’re grateful for the opportunity to participate in the 2nd European Carbon Farming Summit in Dublin last week! A special thank you to BASF Agricultural Solutions for inviting us in an insightful discussion. SustainCERT CEO Marion Verles joined industry experts to talk about their Global Carbon Farming Program – an initiative focused on reducing agricultural emissions and empowering farmers to drive climate and nature-positive change. We explored how verification plays a pivotal role in ensuring credible reporting of GHG emission reductions and how those outcomes can be shared across the value chain. The summit brought together farmers, scientists, policymakers, and industry leaders to delve into the critical role agriculture plays in climate action. Here are a few key takeaways that stood out: 1️⃣ Farmers are Essential Stakeholders – In Ireland, agriculture accounts for one-third of emissions while supporting 130,000 livelihoods and contributing 8.5% of national exports. Engaging and supporting farmers is vital to scaling sustainable practices. 2️⃣ Science-led Solutions are Key – Evidence-based, credible, and scalable carbon farming practices are essential for creating long-term impact. Scientists will be at the heart of driving this. 3️⃣ Carbon Farming is More Than Carbon – Discussions highlighted the importance of biodiversity, soil health, and water management, underscoring the need for a holistic approach to sustainability. 4️⃣ Policy & Funding Must Align – Clear policies and financial incentives are necessary to reward early adopters and drive widespread adoption. 5️⃣ Scaling Through Value Chains – Collaboration between farmers and companies will be crucial to ensure that sustainable practices result in measurable climate impact. 6️⃣ Building Farmer Confidence is Critical – Equipping farmers with the knowledge and resources to understand carbon farming will empower them to take part in this transformative process. The closing message from the summit was clear: the cost of inaction on climate change will be far greater than the investment in carbon farming. Collaboration across sectors will be essential to unlocking the full potential of carbon farming. At SustainCERT, we remain committed to developing high-integrity, science-backed climate solutions🌱 Learn more about our work: https://lnkd.in/dx3T2bU #BASF #CarbonFarming #SustainableAgriculture

SustainCERT partnered with Indigo in 2024 to verify the methodology used to calculate a bespoke emission factor for row crop production in the United States 🌽 Emission factors are the foundational metric for inventory reporting and credible climate claims. They lie at the core of the challenge to meet ambitious Net Zero targets and report emissions with new levels of accuracy required by evolving regulations. Companies are transitioning from static emission factors from standardized databases, to creating dynamic, supply chain-specific emission factors that reflect investments towards climate targets. How can emission factor verification support companies in this process?
