How to configure Radar Systems, Inc. Aero LF #GPR for terrestrial survey. Zond Aero LF GPR was initially designed to be used on drones, and it is the lightest low-frequency GPR system on the market - around just 1 kg (depends on used dipoles). But as not in all situations drone-borne survey is possible or optimal, there is optional "terrestrial survey kit". About us
Radar Systems, Inc. was established in 1989 on the basis of Aviation Subsurface Radiolocation Problem Laboratory (ASRPL), Riga Aviation University (RAU), to become ASRPL's legal successor in research and development for subsurface sounding techniques, hardware and software used to solve tasks of nondestructive environmental monitoring, engineering geological surveys, thickness measurements of sea and fresh water ice, etc. These studies were crowned with development of a number of Ground Penetrating Radars (GPR or georadar) in families Zond, Python and xGPR.

Since it is not always possible to use a #drone-mounted #GPR and not in all conditions, together with our colleagues from Radar Systems, Inc. we have developed a standard “terrestrial” kit for the #Zond #Aero LF GPR. Technically, this is a handle and a small box with a battery and a WiFi router for connecting to a computer with the data collection software that comes with the radar. P.S. I personally prefer small windows tabled instead of laptop in that configuration 😁 SPH Engineering

The last (but not least) comparison we made last year was between terrestrial and airborne GPRs. We took Radar Systems, Inc. Zond Aero 500 NG, put it on a DJI M350 drone first, then on a terrestrial cart, and compared the results of scanning our test range. 🔸 The terrestrial and airborne data were remarkably similar. Of course, a terrestrial GPR had a lower noise level and better depth penetration, but the data didn't differ dramatically. 🔸 The airborne GPR provided better repeatability (straight lines, full coverage, etc.), especially in rugged terrain. 🔸 Having a universal GPR is super cool as you can use one device for everything, from utility mapping in urban environments to geotechnical surveys in challenging terrain. UAV (Drone) GPR Trials - Ground Coupled v Drone Coupled GPR We were visited recently by a prominant and leading global geospatial company. In fact, it could be argued that they are leaders in their industry. Other than the positive feedback we received on our Test Centre (and thanks for that!), they also brought us a GSSI 400MHz GPR. Mission... Trial the GPR against the drone equivalents to see how the profiles compared over our new pipe utilities survey area. New Pipe Utilities Area This area is still in development but already has both plastic and steel pipes buried albeit with far less than the depth of fill content we are planning. Nevertheless, in the spring, we will begin our next development phase to include larger mains pipes and standard backfill profiles. Thrilled to share the successful completion of my first Drone GPR survey for the prestigious Hafeet Rail Project in Oman!! Using drone-based GPR technology, we gathered high-quality data with exceptionally strong reflections, especially over inaccessible areas where cart-based GPR couldn’t be deployed. This innovative approach by my company ESBAAR was crucial in ensuring the utility data at inaccessible locations for this important project. Proud to contribute to such a significant initiative with cutting-edge technology!
