The Nordic and Baltic countries have joined forces and collaborate in several research initiatives on everything from agriculture to future working life and the green transition. Our Director Arne Flåøyen emphasises the importance of the Nordic-Baltic research collaboration: "It provides the opportunity to build strong research groups in areas that are important to the Nordic and Baltic countries and helps to improve the quality of the research carried out. In a world that is becoming increasingly polarised, co-operation within the same cultural sphere and sphere of interest is becoming more important. We therefore hope and believe that Nordic-Baltic research co-operation will be strengthened in the coming years." We also asked Vaiva Prudokienė from the Research Council of Lithuania | Lietuvos mokslo taryba, Katrin Saar from ETAG - Estonian Research Council and Baiba Švāne-Upmale from Research Latvia about their views on the Nordic/Baltic co-operation. 👥💬 “Alongside technological advancement, it is crucial to develop human potential in the field of quantum. In Latvia investments from the EU Recovery Fund and the state budget amounting to more than 6M EUR have been made, specifically for developing quantum technology skills. 🌍💻 By establishing the Latvian Quantum Initiative, we have strengthened expertise in the field of quantum technology, thereby making a significant contribution to scientific achievements on a global scale,” emphasized Janis Paiders, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Culture for Human Capital, Science, and Innovation. 🤝📊 The potential of quantum technology becomes a reality when industry and researchers work together to offer specific solutions, comments Vyacheslavs Kashcheyevs, quantum physicist and tenured professor at the University of Latvia. 📲🧰 The success of the Latvian Quantum Initiative is rooted in mutual understanding, as academia collaborates with industry. The international forum "5G Techritory" serves as a platform for meetings and discussions where “quantum is normalized.” https://lnkd.in/dbydtY3s

🔒“Quantum-secure transmission is the key to future data protection in a world where quantum computers are becoming a reality. Latvia’s role in this development is significant, and our scientists’ and researchers’ work can ensure that the country is at the forefront of quantum communications and technology implementation. Yet it is important to emphasize cooperation with other European countries, the development of multi-access solutions, and the ability to provide communications over longer distances,” is convinced Jurgis Porins, Board Member of VAS Elektroniskie sakari (Electronic Communications Office of Latvia), Professor at Rīgas Tehniskā universitāte (Riga Technical University). 📖 To read the full article, go to Research Latvia webpage (link in the comments below)!
