To add a few takeaways: 🎯Insightful learnings from Yulia Marushevska (Reforms Support Office of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine) on the effectiveness and adaptability of the #decentralized brigade-level procurement system 🎯Truly #deeptech startups like SCALE Nanotech and others exploring innovative defence applications 🎯Helmuth Martin Reisner (Kaitseministeerium / Ministry of Defence of Estonia) sharing the latest initiative on the Reserve Forces Fund 🎯Exciting team addition for Helsing with Kadi Silde coming onboard It’s inspiring to see the #Baltics emerging as leaders in advancing the defence sector with innovative initiatives and strategic collaborations. 👏 Estonian Founders Society Ragnar Sass Agris Kipurs

The 5th Estonian DefenceTech Meetup was an incredibly inspiring gathering, bringing together a packed room of representatives from defence ministries, armed forces, investors, universities, startups and success stories from across the region. Origin Robotics CEO Agris Kipurs shared Latvia's remarkable success story. A recurring and urgent topic echoed by many was the pressing need for governments to accelerate procurement processes to keep pace with the rapid evolution of defence technologies. Estonia's defence tech ecosystem is impressive. Estonian Defence and Aerospace Industry Association brings together around 150 members, with 14 of them involved in 16 different European Defence Fund projects. Led by Rene Ehasalu, Defence Estonia Cluster includes 25 companies and collaborates with all Estonian universities, providing access to over 100 testing facilities. However, a major challenge highlighted was what happens after company completes an EDF project or participates in DIANA – how do these solutions move forward into procurement and integration within the military? One of Estonia’s standout success stories is Wayren, a company improving communication systems for the Estonian Armed Forces. They’ve upgraded radios to operate much faster than existing systems, proving how local innovations can have a massive impact. Key trends from Ukraine also stood out: scalable and affordable solutions developed at lightning speed, the rise of AI-powered autonomous drones, advancements in drone interception and air defence, better communication systems, improved situational awareness, multi-sensor integration, and a focus on building a low-cost, efficient army. Estonia has created an incredible synergy between startups, universities, and government, setting a strong example for other nations. The next big question is how to ensure these innovations are adopted and integrated into defence systems. It’s clear that collaboration and swift action are more important than ever. Unilab Defence is almost ready to launch, said UniLab CEO Andris Baumanis. This is exactly what Latvia’s defence ecosystem needs. #DefenceTech #Innovation #Estonia #Startups #AI #EDF #UAV #OriginRobotics #Ukraine
