Stock market update: Nifty Bank index 1.2%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Bank index closed on a note on Friday.

Shares of Punjab National Bank(up 0.88 per cent), IndusInd Bank Ltd.(up 0.67 per cent), IDFC First Bank Ltd.(up 0.62 per cent), Au Small Finance Bank Ltd.(up 0.45 per cent) and Canara Bank(up 0.35 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, HDFC Bank Ltd.(down 2.49 per cent), ICICI Bank Ltd.(down 1.98 per cent), State Bank of India(down 0.98 per cent), Federal Bank Ltd.(down 0.44 per cent) and Axis Bank Ltd.(down 0.16 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Bank index closed 1.2 per cent at 50988.80.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 183.91 points at 24004.75, while the BSE Sensex stood 720.6 points at 79223.11.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 21 ended in the green, while 29 closed in the red.

Shares of Vodafone Idea, Vishal Mega Mart, YES Bank, ITI Ltd and Bank of Maharashtra were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of ITI Ltd, Avonmore Capital, Dev Information Tech, Deccan Cements and Lloyds Metals hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Spacenet Enterprise, Jai Corp, Aki India, Astral Poly Tech and Global Surfaces hit their fresh 52-week lows.
