War In The Congo (DRC): Luofu in mourning, civilians and infrastructure targeted by rebels The war in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo continues to wreak havoc. The town of Luofu, in Lubero territory, was recently the scene of bloody violence attributed to the M23 rebels. These events, marked by massacres of civilians and attacks on infrastructure, once again highlight the urgent need for international intervention. It all began on Saturday, December 7, when the M23 rebels attacked the positions of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), in violation of the ceasefire. The FARDC managed to repel these attacks and partially recaptured the town of Luofu. On Monday, December 9, they drove the rebels from their strategic position in Katabuye, allowing them to regain full control of the town. However, on Wednesday, December 11, during a major assault, M23 rebels dislodged the FARDC from their position in Kaghenge, near Luofu, and regained control of part of the town. Faced with fierce resistance from the FARDC and local self-defense groups, the rebels changed their target and turned on civilians. According to testimonies, the rebels targeted men hiding under their beds and summarily executed anyone they encountered in the houses. The violence of that day left indelible marks. Six civilians were executed on the spot, followed by the discovery of four more bodies in the hours that followed. The rebels also targeted young men, often wrongly accused of belonging to the self-defense groups. These atrocities brought the death toll to more than 32, according to a local source. To conceal the scale of the massacres, some bodies were reportedly thrown into the Luholu River, located less than a kilometer from Luofu. In addition to the massacres, the rebels targeted civilian infrastructure. On the night of Saturday 7 to Sunday 8 December, a bomb was dropped on the office of the Bungeni primary school in the centre of Luofu. Although the target appears to have been a FARDC position, this attack caused significant material damage, a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law. Tactics - Obstructed Entry I find it amusing watching tactical entry training videos on social media as most are nothing more than tacticool entertainment and not relevant training. The vast majority of training scenarios are unobstructed entries into empty unfurnished rooms... The video below highlights the issues of obstructed entries. Unfortunately a cop was injured in this incident, but imagine the issues if the criminal had a firearm. If this criminal with mental health issues had the foresight to barricade his door, then what would serious criminals and narcos do? Video Description In Maidstone, UK, Robert Jenner, 34, stabbed a police officer repeatedly with a pair of scissors, inflicting more than 20 wounds in a frenzied assault. The officer had attended Jenner's home as part of an investigation into reports of indecent exposure. Jenner refused to cooperate and barricaded his door with furniture. When officers eventually forced entry, Jenner, who was naked, fled into a darkened room. Jenner, had been released from prison just two days earlier for similar offences.
