About us

With a population of nearly 30 million people, half of them under the age of 18, the future of Madagascar belongs to young people. UNICEF Madagascar is committed to improving their lives. By 2028, UNICEF aims to vaccinate 90% of children under one-year-old against measles, up from the current rate of 69%. We’re also working to increase access to safe water, which currently only 58% of the population can reach, to improve the health and well-being of the population, while improving reading and numeracy skills in children aged 7 to 14. Reducing early marriage and early pregnancies are also priorities in a country where 39% of women are married before the age of 18, as is improving childhood nutrition to address stunting. Join us in creating a better future for Malagasy children!

• From December 9 to 11, Mauritania hosted the Continental Education Conference´s. Casmira, a young leader dedicated to promoting education, President, founder and member of the Youth Council in her region, Analanjirofo, Eastern of Madagascar, was selected to represent African youth alongside two other young African women. In her speech, she passionately stated: “Education should not be a luxury, as it is the foundation of all progress.” During the event, she co-managed a booth with other young participants, showcasing the tangible impact of UNICEF’s work to attendees. This conference provided her with the opportunity to advocate for education in front of influential figures, including African heads of state, ministers, ambassadors, and technical and financial partners. She emphasized the critical need to invest in education as a pillar for Africa’s future. Casmira also engaged with high-level participants such as Pia Britto, Jeremy Hopkins, the Minister of Education of Burundi, representatives from UNICEF New York, and UNICEF’s Deputy Regional Director. These interactions allowed her to gather insights into their perspectives and commitments following the conference. The goal is clear: to end the learning crisis by 2035. So join us and, let us act now to turn this vision into reality. #ContinentalEducation #ForEveryChild UNICEF Africa African Union ©️UNICEF Madagascar/2024/Rakotomandimby

  • 🤔 Did you know that one in three children in Madagascar doesn’t have access to safe drinking water? 💦 Water is essential to life, and unsafe water puts children at risk of diseases. 👉 In Koronga, district of Beloha, southern of Madagascar, through the MIONJO project, a support for Resilient Livelihoods, funded by The World Bank, more villages now have access to clean drinking water, offering important protection for children and their communities.
