🌍 Yesterday we wrapped up a powerful day at the 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀, 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 in Pristina. Over 200 participants from Europe and the Western Balkans gathered to explore greener, innovative career paths for youth! Organized by Helvetas, the event emphasized how young people are at the forefront of building a sustainable future through skills, bold ideas, and action. 🌱 This year’s conference builds on the 2022 "𝑺𝒌𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑭𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝑱𝒐𝒃𝒔" 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒇𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝑺𝒌𝒐𝒑𝒋𝒆, where national and regional leaders, educational experts, and private sector voices first gathered to reimagine the future of work and youth employment. Some highlights from yesterday's conference include: 🍀 𝙍𝙖𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙞𝙣𝙣𝙤𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 and 𝙗𝙤𝙡𝙙 𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙨 are essential for a green transition. 🍀𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙮 𝙖 𝙥𝙞𝙫𝙤𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙧𝙤𝙡𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙙𝙞𝙜𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙛𝙩; career guidance is key to access new green opportunities. 🍀𝙎𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙢𝙥𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 should be the new standard. 🍀𝙀𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 increases demand for greener practices. The conference was only a step in the right direction. 🎯 Practice what you preach! In addition to Helvetas’ projects focused on building access to greener employment opportunities, our Skopje office is walking the talk by implementing its own 🌱 decarbonization measures. 📈 For over six years, Helvetas has been tracking its emissions across Switzerland and 30+ partner country offices. Data is collected on business travel, staff commuting, energy consumption, use of materials and equipment and waste management. This information drives the creation of country-level Decarbonization Action Plans as well as endowing Helvetas’ Decarbonization Fund. 👀 Curious about our internal efforts? 🎉 We are celebrating ONE YEAR of successful implementation of the Private Sector Engagement project, in partnership with M6 Educational Centre Skopje. 💼 Over the past year, 28 medium and large- sized companies representing 22,000 employees have come together to elevate the knowledge and skills of their middle management staff. 👩💼 👨💼 1,300 participants gained up-to-date knowledge and skills from 38 training sessions covering soft skills, sector-specific knowledge, and future-oriented topics like AI and digitalisation. Reflecting on last year's launch, Swiss Ambassador, Veronique Hullman expessed her hope “that this is just the beginning and that other companies will be inspired to join this initiative or engage in other initiatives that will impact their companies and beyond”. That's exactly what has happened! What began with 17 companies has now expanded to 28, proving that Macedonian companies are ready to collectively create, guide, and finance initiatives for skills development, which will further benefit the private sector and the employees.
