It was a privilege to speak at Shoulder Compliance’s 5th Anniversary seminar, titled “Financial Regulation: The Next Five Years”. Our panel which was expertly moderated by Roberta Avellino Pulè included financial services heavyweights Christopher P. Buttigieg from the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA), Jonathan Phyall from the Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit (FIAU) Malta, Charles Cassar from Shoulder, where we discussed the regulatory approach that the European Union is probably heading towards, and where ideally it should be heading to, even in view of the #Draghi report and the regulatory and political developements in the US. We shared our views whether the EU may have reached a peak of over-regulation and elaborated on which areas it is falling behind the US in terms of innovation in financial services, and which are its strong points to capitilise on. We also discussed whether further #financialservices regulatroy harmonization can be beneficial or not to a small country like #Malta. I would like to congratulate the Shoulder Compliance team for managing to organise such a great seminar. GTG Advocates - Malta Law Firm #Malta
