🚀 Last week, at #TANGRAM, we had the privilege of hosting another session of the "Leadership In Safety" workshop, led by Julien WAGNER. This program underscores the paramount importance of safety within the CMA CGM Group, equipping key personnel from our Terminals and Inland assets with a deeper understanding of the group's "Safety Vision" and providing them with the necessary tools to implement it effectively. 👥 I was delighted to co-facilitate this session alongside Julien and Thibaut Palette. Together, we are committed to fostering a culture of safety that ensures the well-being of our teams and the success of our operations. 🔒 #WorkSafeGoHomeSafe #LeadershipInSafety #CMACGM #SafetyCulture #Zeroaccident

Making a difference… #MaltaFreeportTerminals staff played their part in this year’s European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR). Their efforts focused on promoting sustainability and raising awareness about waste reduction practices. Guided by Freeport colleague Adrian Gatt, a seasoned winner of crib competitions, they transformed recycled polystyrene and wood into remarkable cribs, merging sustainability with craftsmanship. We printed special T-shirts for the event worn by the participants that were proudly worn with the slogan One Team One Goal. Our colleagues also joined forces with the volunteers at RMJ Horse Rescue for a rewarding cleanup initiative. Their tireless efforts not only made a visible difference to the sanctuary but also showcased their dedication to both the environment and animal welfare. The RMJ team expressed deep gratitude for the remarkable impact achieved in such a short time. A huge well done to the team for their dedication and innovative ideas that made a real impact. Together, we continue to drive change for a cleaner, greener future. #Environment #WasteReduction

The Malta Maritime Forum and Malta Employers' Association teamed up to organise a visit to the Malta Freeport for a 40-strong delegation from Group 1 (Employers) of the European Economic and Social Committee headed by their President, Stefano Mallia. The visit was supported by Malta Freeport Terminals and Tug Malta. The Group was driven around the Freeport’s facilities, in particular the Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 Quays. A tour of Marsaxlokk Bay followed, on board two Tugboats – MT St Angelo and MT Vittoriosa where delegation also viewed ongoing construction works on the Squaring Off Project of Terminal 2. The Group also heard the Employers’ and Forum’s views about the flaws of the EU ETS regime and the challenges it is posing on several transhipment hubs in EU Mediterranean ports including the Malta Freeport itself. The delegation heard how, as anticipated, ETS has distorted competition between EU and non-EU ports to the extent that major shipping lines and alliances are investing heavily in new transhipment terminal facilities in North African ports with the ultimate aim of shifting their operations in the Mediterranean outside the EU. Although the objective of the EU ETS is a commendable one, its implementation is proving very detrimental to EU ports in the Mediterranean because in the absence of a global market-based measure, they cannot compete in the resultant unfair competitive conditions. Besides, the situation is further complicated by current geo-political tensions, supply-chain complexities and uncertainty on the fuel of the future.

Our doors are open…#MaltaFreeportTerminals is delighted to have welcomed undergraduate BA students reading Occupational Health and Safety. Accompanied by the Director of the Centre for the Labour Studies, Luke Fiorini, the students were received by our Chief HR & Risk Officer, Noel Scerri and given a guided tour of the premises by QHSE Consultant Mark Sultana and QHSE Manager Christian Grina. The students were provided with detailed information on the Freeport’s operations and the importance of health and safety in the container handling industry. Our Planning Manager, Adrian Mallia, also offered an overview of the various sections of the Freeport’s Operations Departments – Berthing, Ship and Yard Planning and Equipment Control. This was followed by a presentation on Managing Safety at Malta Freeport Terminals. The Freeport is open to hosting such visits and would like to strengthen its collaboration with the University of Malta and other educational institutions - through similar visits, guest lectures or other initiatives - on initiatives that benefit both students and the industry. We are also offering attractive job prospects for Health and Safety Officers interested in embarking on a rewarding career. Get in touch today at hr@maltafreeport.com.

Blossoming partnership… #MaltaFreeportTerminals is delighted to have renewed its sponsorship agreement for the The Malta Trust Foundation Blossom Project, which offers psycho-social support at various schools in Malta, including St Benedict College in Birzebbuga. Since 2016, the Blossom Project has been offering counselling/psychotherapy services in schools, endeavouring to offer timely and effective support to children, young people, and their families as well as to educators and complementary staff. Research has shown that lack of psycho-social support in early years has a direct impact on the mental wellbeing and mental health in later years. Red alert… Being prepared for an incident at our facility is vital, and with this in mind we carried out a full-scale simulation of an emergency situation with the collaboration of Malta’s emergency services and medical personnel. We carefully created two scenarios – an unconscious operator on a Rubber Tyred Gantry crane and an injured worker on a vessel – to put to the test the systems we have in place to react to these instances. Our colleagues treated the event with utmost seriousness and received invaluable feedback from the professionals on site on how protocols and responses could be further improved. The health and safety of everyone at the Freeport is our number one priority, and we’d like to thank all those who took part including the Civil Protection Department, Mater Dei Hospital Emergency Personnel, our in-house nurse and port doctor, Malta Freeport Corporation security personnel, and of course our staff who rose to the occasion and benefitted from this learning experience. #rapidresponse #safety #training #freeport #Malta #maritime #shipping
