  • The new generation… #MaltaFreeportTerminals is proud to welcome the #CMACGM Altamira, ninth in a series of ten next generation LNG-powered container ships that place the opitimisation of energy efficiency at the heart of their cutting-edge design. Christened last month and sailing under the Malta flag, the 2,000 TEU container ship epitomises CMA CGM’s drive towards its Net Zero Carbon goal by 2050. These innovative vessels are powered by LNG and reduce CO2 emissions by up to 20%, reduces sulfur oxide emissions by 99%, nitrogen oxide emissions by 92%, and fine particles by 91%. They also have dual-fuel capabilities for biogas produced from bio-waste and are convertible to e-methane produced from decarbonised hydrogen. The ships feature an optimised design, with a length of 204.29 m and width of 29.6m for improved hydrodynamic and aerodynamic performance. Moreover, the inverted bow reduces fuel consumption by 15%, while their superstructure is positioned at the front to enhance aerodynamic efficiency and loading capacity. #Malta #Maritime #Shipping #LNGpowered #LNG #environment #carbonneutral

  • Reaching for the stars… Our colleagues’ children were treated to a special astronaut adventure at the annual Kids Club Christmas Party held at the Mercury Christmas Dome which included an immersive walk-through, beginning with a warm welcome for the guests and the distribution of passports to the young explorers. These passports guided them through various themed stations within the dome, including the Intergalactic Ball Pit, Shooting Star Letter to Santa, Space Theory Quiz, Rocket Launching Workshop, Toxic Meltdown Alien Present Test, and an opportunity to meet Santa aboard his Rocket. The little astronauts were awarded an official space licence at the end of the journey before enjoying a spectacular 360-degree Christmas-themed visual show. The event culminated with the distribution of gifts to the Kids Club members, followed by a festive party in what was a truly unforgettable experience for Kids Club members, parents, family members and friends. #MaltaFreeportTerminals #kids #Christmas #newyear

  • Looking forward… #MaltaFreeportTerminals CEO Alex Montebello offered his reflections on the past 12 months at the Freeport, during which he highlighted the significant investment in the facility and discussed key opportunities, as well as outlining the main challenges and objectives for the year ahead as the facility seeks to further enhance its reputation as a leading Mediterranean hub. The event also served as an opportunity for our chief officers and management team to interact with one another during a fruitful team-building event which was enjoyed by all those who took part. This year has been a special one as the Freeport celebrated 20 years since privatisation and the transformation that has taken place in that period. We wish everyone a peaceful and prosperous New Year! #brightfuture #lookingahead #Malta #maritime #shipping #freeport

  • A child is born… Children attending the Society for Christian Doctrine in Birzebbugia, known as the MUSEUM, lent a helping hand to our #MaltaFreeportTerminals colleague as they finished off this year’s #Christmas cribs. • Mistletoe and wine… Our colleagues had tremendous fun getting into the festive spirit at #MaltaFreeportTerminals Christmas party which was an evening of joy for everyone. There was also extra cause for celebration this year as the Freeport celebrated 20 years of privatisation. Our CEO, Alex Montebello, took a moment to reflect on the facility’s development and growth over the past two decades as the Freeport underwent a transformation to become a pivotal and sought-after hub in the Mediterranean. None of these achievements would have been possible without the dedication and commitment of our highly-trained workforce and we raise a glass to all of them as we look forward to achieving even more milestones in the year ahead!
