Between the 4th and the 6th December 2024, Av Gianluca Cappitta attended the 11th Biennial IBA Global Immigration Conference in London. A number of interesting topics were tackled including trends in global mobility, what the right to asylum looks like in 2024 and how immigration lawyers can benefit from generative AI. It was a pleasure connecting with colleagues specialising in immigration law and well done to the organisers for such a successful conference.

What are the laws regulating Airbnb rentals in Malta? 🧐 🗝Tenements that are rented to tourists as holiday premises are regulated by Chapter 409 of the laws of Malta (Travel and Tourism Services Act). This Act stipulates that the property must be registered as a short-term rental and a license must be obtained to legally operate as a rental accommodation. Adherence to safety and quality standards, fulfilment of tax obligations, and compliance with local council and zoning regulations are other important features of Airbnb rentals in Malta. Property owners must keep records of all guests, including details such as names, nationalities, and duration of stay which information may need to be submitted to the Malta Tourism Authority or relevant authorities as part of regulatory compliance.
