Reminisce’s first LP in seven years, ATSG, Vol. 1, sees the Ogun native cement his position in the zeitgeist through a marriage of street insights and diverse sounds. “Rotate” features traditional percussion—an indication of his allegiance to Nigeria’s indigenous music. Meanwhile, in a display of his signature fluidity, Reminisce floats over the Afropop rhythms of “Shina Peters”, spits hard truths on the boom-bap “Recycle” and recruits Powpeezy, Dremo and ODUMODUBLVCK for a bar fest over the drill bassline of “Olu Maintain”. Crafted alongside Olamide, “Orin” is a log drum-inflected meditation on perseverance. Elsewhere, the torchbearer of authentic Naija rap imbues his street-hop with pop sensibilities, as melodic hooks laid by Mayorkun, Oxlade, Bnxn and Kayode accompany his raspy rhymes. Wielding his trademark bilingual lyricism, the artist born Remilekun Khalid Safaru, references spirituality, love and legacy in statesmanly fashion. Most prominent across ATSG, Vol. 1, however, is the air of consistent growth—a reflection of Reminisce’s enduring role as a musical boundary-breaker and bridge between generations.
