Rita Ekwere, a.k.a. Ray BLK, is a voice of confidence. On her debut album, Empress, she laments the mean streets of her London hometown on "Run Run”, and dreams of rejoining past friends in “Paradise”. She asserts herself on "Got My Own" and "Girl Like Me”, and talks blues on "Mama". The high point is the title track, an assertive anthem about self-love that speaks volumes with her voice and a simple guitar line.
