TAR1Q’s Okada Airlines is both emblematic of his nomadic upbringing and a soundtrack to his movements since. Adapting this wayfaring spirit to his sound, this third EP (after 2022’s SON OF THE MOON and 2023’s All I Felt) traverses Afrobeats, amapiano and R&B while being bound by sleek melodies. Across the project, Young Jonn, Bola BMH, Killa and Khaid assist the singer-songwriter in addressing matters of romance, community and self-fulfilment through layered storytelling. TAR1Q—born Tariq Temitope Oluokun—lyrically captures the transportive essence of life’s experiences, captured in the social commentary on “Italy”, metaphoric romance of “Bus Stop Remix” and sensual abandon of “Zuko”. Deftly weaving a common thread across this offering, TAR1Q centres the notion of movement—over time, across places and between bodies. It’s an idea crystallised by the reference to his father’s job at Okada Air in the ’90s: this is the story of an unfolding journey, with every stopover contributing to its rhythm.
