“In 1994, things were really starting to hot up in the drum ’n’ bass scene,” Peshay tells Apple Music. The latest instalment of The History of Drum and Bass mix series finds the DJ/producer revisiting the exhilarating period of time just before drum ’n’ bass erupted into the mainstream. “I vividly remember playing at Dreamscape in Milton Keynes, July 1994—one of my favourite events at that time,” he says. “I recall walking in and hearing all the whistles and horns blasting off and feeling the energy from the crowd. The vibe at that rave was electric. Rave culture was in full swing and going from strength to strength, really embracing the new sounds of drum ’n’ bass.” Peshay captures that same charged atmosphere here, spinning through pioneering tracks from Roni Size, Danny Breaks and Renegade. “I finished the set that night with ‘Piano Tune’, my new track at the time,” he says. “The reaction from the crowd totally blew me away—the rest, as they say, is history.”
