Constantines’ first two albums brimmed with the anthemic immediacy of their live shows, so this more nuanced studio album might, at first, seem a little confusing. Put in that time, though, and Tournament of Hearts reveals itself as a work of whip-crack dynamism—one rendered more effective by how much gets teasingly held back on approach to the gut-busting eruptions of “Draw Us Lines” and “Working Full-Time”. Be patient. It’ll come.
