Grant Hart

About Grant Hart

Grant Hart was best known for his contributions (drumming, singing, and songwriting) to the influential post-punk Minneapolis trio Hüsker Dü. Splitting acrimoniously with that group in 1987, Hart released one solo effort, Intolerance, before forming a new band, Nova Mob, that released a few records in the 1990s. His heartfelt songs seemed out of place in the hardcore scene from which Hüsker Dü sprang, and were a harsh contrast to bandmate Bob Mould's equally deft but decidedly caustic songwriting. The same disregard of genre limitation led to Hart being considered one of hardcore's best songwriters, as he continued to record and tour well into the 2000s. Hart died in September 2017 at the age of 56, after a battle with kidney cancer. ~ Daniel Fetherston
