Il Pomo d'Oro

About Il Pomo d'Oro

Il Pomo d’Oro is an international ensemble that focuses on historically informed performances of works from the Baroque and Classical eras. It was established by violist Giulio D’Alessio and producer Gesine Lübben in 2012; in keeping with the members’ approach, the name comes from the 1666 opera by Antonio Cesti. The primary conductors are Russian keyboardist and cornetist Maxim Emelyanychev and Italian keyboardist Francesco Corti. A number of the ensemble’s concerts and many recordings have been collaborations with featured soloists or vocalists from outside the group, be it a 2013 album of Handel compositions with Spanish countertenor Xavier Sabata or a 2018 record of Bach violin concerti with Japanese violinist Shunske Sato. Il Pomo d’Oro has performed at some of the world’s most renowned venues, including Paris’ Théâtre des Champs Elysées and London’s Wigmore Hall, as well as maintaining a residency with the Venetian Centre for Baroque Music. Whether presenting Bach harpsichord concerti or Mozart symphonies, the ensemble brings both historical accuracy and emotional intensity to its performances.
