Essential Albums
- Every once in a while comes along a soundtrack that overshadows the very film it was created for—that's the case of Aashiqui 2, whose chart topping music helped elevate the 2013 romantic drama into blockbuster territory. Making stars of its lead actors Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapoor, the soundtrack also crowned singers Arijit Singh and Ankit Tiwari as the new kings of Hindi playback. Their smooth-as-silk renditions of “Tum Hi Ho”, "Sunn Raha Hai” and “Chahun Main Ya Naa” resonated with young lovers everywhere. Tune in and let the love carry you away.
About Jeet Gannguli
As a composer and multi-instrumentalist working in Bengali and Hindi music, Jeet Gannguli is a master of cinematic, fusion-informed love songs. • Gannguli’s first step into composition came when he worked in the theatre scene in Mumbai in 1996. • He trained in Indian classical music, studied under jazz guitar great Carlton Kitto and picked up Western classical influences as well. • Gannguli got his first break in Bollywood with the 2001 film Tere Liye, a soundtrack he co-created with Pritam. The duo would go on to work together on other films, including 2002's Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai. • On 2012’s Raaz 3D and Blood Money; and 2013’s Aashiqui 2, he worked with top singers like Sonu Nigam, Arijit Singh, Shreya Ghoshal and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. • Stirring ballads like “Khamoshiyan” and “Muskurane” not only cemented Gannguli’s place in the film music world, but also aided the career of singer Arijit Singh, his collaborator on those tracks. • In 2014, Gannguli won the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director for his work on Aashiqui 2.
