About Kevin Olusola
In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I remember listening to Jacqueline du Pre recordings in my childhood bedroom constantly. Her sound was more human and raw compared to most classical cellos. I knew I wanted to emote feelings just like that but in my own way. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Jacqueline du Pré, The Very Best of Jacqueline du Pré Remastered Mary Mary, Thankful Michael Jackson, Thriller On the album of "Thankful" and "Thriller," EVERY song is iconic and there are no skips. The recordings of Elgar and Dvorak Cello Concertos are my favorite of any cellist. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Stay With Me” This recording was the first time people heard my singing quality on the instrument coupled with my love of beatboxing and looping. I always say I never want to sound like a cello, I want to sound like a voice. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? My favorite career moment is when Quincy Jones asked me to perform at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland opening for Bobby McFerrin and Chick Corea. I was so nervous but Quincy said "just be you" which made me feel confident in my artistry. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? It feels like I have just now come into my own artistry so the world is my oyster as I start my solo career. I'm excited for all the new opportunities that come my way as I release new music.
