Since his Idols South Africa victory in 2013, Musa's honeyed vocals and musings on love have made him a staple in the country’s Afrosoul and Afropop scenes. Shortly after winning the televised singing contest, Musa (born Musa Sukwene in Witbank in 1986) released his debut, The Dream. However, his reputation skyrocketed when he worked with the late, legendary producer Robbie Malinga on 2016’s Mr Serious, which spawned the multiplatinum hits ”Mthande” and “Nomkitha”. “The album was inspired by love,” he revealed to Apple Music, “and I wanted to create a path for myself and let people know that I’m here to stay.” So it’s no surprise that the singer, songwriter and producer continued crafting genuinely romantic ballads on 2018’s self-titled third album and 2020’s single “Thandiwe”.
