South London rapper Slim’s dynamic voice cuts through the dark flavours of drill and grime like a torch. The Lewisham MC uses his own fusion of the subgenres as an atmospheric backdrop for gritty tales of the street life he found himself wrapped up in. His debut single from 2018, the menacing “Magic”, detailed Slim’s humble beginnings as an aspiring artist and the steps he took to reach his elevated status. “Balance”, also released that year, saw Slim speaking on keeping the competing challenges of his new life in check, as a regional star with a past. In 2019, Slim released his debut album, Still Working, led by the motivational single “In My Bag” featuring masked North London artist M Huncho. That same year, Slim appeared on Beats 1 Radio DJ Charlie Sloth’s “Fire in the Booth” freestyle show, where he delved deeper into his hardened life over propulsive, dark production, further evidence of his ability to transform difficult experiences into relatable bars.
