About The Ethiopians
One of the great Jamaican vocal groups, The Ethiopians began recording for producer Coxsone Dodd in a style that bridged ska and rocksteady. In the mid '60s, they enjoyed massive local hits with "Train to Skaville," and the title track of their first album, ENGINE 54. In 1968, they began an association with producer Harry J., producing a series of quintessential Jamaican vocal records, including their first big hit for Harry J., "Everything Crash." In 1977, Winston "Niney" Holness produced the solid Rasta-influenced SLAVE CALL (1977), before returning to Dodd for the mature, rootsy EVERYTHING CRASH, in 1979.
