With Ben Bridwell's alternately vulnerable and triumphant vocals riding up top, Band of Horses fuse elements of classic rock, Americana and alt-pop and brush it all with an atmospheric haze. They emerged from the Seattle indie scene in 2006 and broke out in a big way with 2010's Infinite Arms, earning aboveground attention without losing their underground edge. In the folky harmonies that bring “Slow Cruel Hands of Time” its bucolic feel, or the way “Compliments” digs in with raw riffs over a rocking rhythm, the band have ably lived up to their name with a sound that's both earthy and elegant.
