Formed in Boston in 1986 by Evan Dando and Ben Deily, The Lemonheads began life as a noisy, snotty punk band. As they progressed, pop melodies and hooks found their way into the music, and completely took over when the band signed to Atlantic Records and Dando gained control of the project. The Lemonheads' 1992 LP It's A Shame About Ray was a huge creative breakthrough for the group, and turned its leader into an alt-rock pinup idol. Eventually, the tabloid gossip received more attention than the music. The band has since released albums and played live sporadically through the '00s.
