William Murphy knows how to nail that sweet spot between gospel music and praise & worship. Born and raised in the Motor City before relocating to Atlanta, the devoted pastor, singer and bandleader found instant success when marrying the two styles on 2005’s “Praise Is What I Do”, an intensely uplifting piece that has since become a modern standard. The song courses with youthful energy, a quality that applies to the rest of his catalogue. Touches of funk, rock and R&B pop up everywhere. Yet it warrants mentioning that Murphy is very much an old soul grounded in tradition; both his father and grandfather preached the gospel.
