After spending two years writing for his second album, Jai Wolf realised that he had actually created enough music for two full-lengths. The Red Eye Home is the first of these albums, and the first of what the Bangladeshi American producer calls his Blue Babu era. “I went through some of the most turbulent moments of my life during this time,” Wolf shared on social media, “and instead of fighting against the storm, I let it shepherd me to new ground.” He leans into that vulnerability on “(I Dread the Day He Takes You To) Paris” and “Want It All”, both steeped in heartbreak: “I knew you'd let me down again/You cut right through me,” vocalist Evalyn begins on the latter. As Wolf confronts these feelings in order to move on, he also evolves creatively. UK garage drums propel the alluring “Water Sign” with Aluna, and “Heaven Is Calling”, a soaring stutter-house track with a gospel choir, is Wolf’s first club cut. “Red Eye” strips the album back to its emotional core, its dreamy synth washes and resonant piano offering much-needed closure.
