It’s hard to imagine that TSHA, a.k.a. London’s Teisha Matthews, was a fledgling producer when she released her debut EP, 2018’s Dawn. The record’s warm, gentle vibes are rooted in ’90s deep house at its most immersive, while Jay Wilcox’s reassuring vocals on the lead single, “Move On”, convey the wisdom of an old soul. Such emotional maturity distinguishes all her music. “Me You” takes a page from Four Tet, turning hammered strings into timeless house; and “Sacred”, which Bonobo picked for his 2019 fabric Presents mix, coaxes nostalgia out of a three-note melody. Even at its simplest, TSHA’s music overflows with feeling.
