About Greg Foat
London-based keyboardist, composer, and bandleader Greg Foat is a musician of his time and beyond it. His idiosyncratic "non-contemporary jazz" utilizes many styles. Foat's music was inspired by library and soundtrack music, jazz, global folk traditions, psychedelia, hymnody, ambient, and '60s and '70s pop, soul, and blues. Whether solo, as co-leader of Hampshire & Foat (with multi-instrumentalist Warren Hampshire), or leading the Greg Foat Group, he purposefully dissolves boundaries between musical genres and began with GFG's 2011 debut Dark Is the Sun. He is a prolific recording artist, more often than not releasing multiple albums per year, including 2015's Dancers at the Edge of Time, 2017's Galaxies Like Grains of Sand, and 2018's Nightshade. Foat led an orchestra and choir on his 2020 masterwork Symphonie Pacifique. Following 2023's Interstellar Fantasy with Kokoroko drummer Ayo Salawu, he offered a meditation on domestic life and parenthood on 2024's The Glass Frog.
