Diana Ross' silvery soprano sounds sublime in every situation. The banjo-and-strings tableau of the sumptuous “Last Time I Saw Him” pairs beautifully with Ross' searching vocal; the sultry “Let's Go Up” gives a synth-pop-era update to the R&B slow-jam ideal. On the drum-machine-driven “Eaten Alive,” meanwhile, she's backed up by Michael Jackson, whose passionate vocal jolts the chaotic, pulsing track.
