Harper's Bazaar: The Playlist by Yebba
If fashion and music go hand in hand—and of course they do—then think of playlists like a wardrobe, personally curated and deeply reflective of the wearer’s lifestyle, outlook, and more. This particular one shows the diverse stylings and inspirations of singer-songwriter Abbey “Yebba” Smith, the musical director of the October issue of fashion magazine Harper’s Bazaar, which is producing a series of playlists with different musicians, available only on Apple Music. Inspired by her late mother and the promise of a new day, Smith’s debut album, Dawn, was released in September to critical acclaim. Produced by Grammy Award-winning Mark Ronson, the project has hints of pop, jazz, blues, and R&B, and features collaborators like A$AP Rocky, KAYTRANADA, and Questlove. For this month’s issue, Smith curated a playlist with the theme of home. It includes Janet Jackson’s 1997 hit single “Got ’Til It’s Gone” and Tame Impala’s “Tomorrow’s Dust.” These songs, Smith explains, “are good for playing when cooking, cleaning, coming home from work, or having a stay-at-home day.” With each issue of Harper’s Bazaar, we’ll launch a new playlist with picks by their latest musical director, so stay tuned.
