Inspired by Bad Brains

Bad Brains first exploded onto the Washington D.C. punk scene in the late '70s, and the reverberations of that moment are still being felt. The sheer velocity of their early singles like “Pay to Cum” and “Banned in D.C.” set the light-speed standard for American hardcore and thrash metal alike, while the funk and reggae experiments that took root on 1986's classic I Against I presaged the sort of polyrhythmic alt-rock that the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fishbone, and Rage Against the Machine would later take to the mainstream. This playlist of Bad Brains' many acolytes illustrates just how far their influence has spread.
