In honour of Black Music Month 2021, New York’s DJ Clue has created a special mix. Below, he shares his thoughts on Black music and how its rich legacy comes alive in his work. “Black music is an expression of a lifestyle. Depending on the author, it can describe that lifestyle, the struggle or pain that might have been brought on by certain situations, roadblocks or prejudices that occur from being a Black person from certain backgrounds in this country. It describes the journey one takes to overcome these roadblocks to what could be fame and fortune; once that fame or fortune may be achieved, it’s the struggle one faces to keep that status and never have to look back to the way it was or used to be.”
