English singer-songwriter Jacob Collier has worked with seemingly everyone under the sun. His scrapbook includes snapshots with Joni Mitchell, SZA, Coldplay, Hans Zimmer and more, and he carries this collaborative spirit into the fourth volume of his sprawling Djesse series. Throughout, there are songs that find Collier recording with stars who play in different styles but work surprisingly well together. He joins forces with Madison Cunningham and Punch Brothers’ Chris Thile on the lush, acoustic “Summer Rain”—using the duo’s unique voices to create massive harmonies. “Never Gonna Be Alone” features both Lizzy McAlpine and John Mayer, and the result is a steamy pop-R&B ode to true love. Collier reveals the most special collaboration of all on opener “100,000 Voices”, which features a snippet recorded live at one of his shows after he managed to get his audience to sing in unison, with the rest of the song built around these hundred thousand voices joining as one.
