Many of Hollywood’s highest-grossing films have been gilded with James Horner’s soundtracks. The composer, who died in 2015, had a gift not just for dramatic pace, but also for melodies that live on long after the end credits have rolled. Here the finest moments from 13 of Horner’s best-loved film scores are treated to imaginative rearrangements, performed by some of classical music’s brightest stars. 2CELLOS give depth to the Celtic flavours of both Titanic and Braveheart, while saxophonist Amy Dickson soars in the Schumann-influenced theme from Willow. Pianist Alexis Ffrench’s sweeping arrangement of an extract from The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is intense and poignant.
