FLVME has established himself as a high-performing artist known for churning out a large volume of work consistently. NOTE TO SELF is his second release of 2023, preceded by The LOST PACK:, Vol. 1. With every project, FLVME wears his heart on his sleeve, allowing fans an ocean-wide view of the inner workings of his heart and mind. On NOTE TO SELF, he has graduated to philosophical musings about life, purpose and meaning. Whether through interludes or lyrics, a recurring theme throughout the project is that of an artist disillusioned with the status quo, interested in searching for a grander purpose, using music as a conduit. “DO RiGHT iNTRO”, “JUS A LIL’ FREESTYLE iii” and “NOTE TO SELF” find him realising that to reach his lofty goals, he must adopt a laser focus, while accepting the perils that come with having ambition. He further ruminates on his place in the industry, eventually concluding that he is where he belongs, despite the naysayers. FLVME’s heavy subject matter is neutralised by the ebullient soundscapes that accompany his innovative sing-rap flow. The latter half of the project becomes more festive, with features that complement and augment FLVME’s presence. He enlists Maglera Doe Boy, who can always be trusted to deliver a masterful verse, on the triumphant “KEEP GOIN’”, 25K is aptly featured on the ode to monetary success “WAY UP”, while fellow The Wrecking Crew alumnus Ecco the Beast guests on the flirtatious hookup anthem “REAL ONE”. In true FLVME style, he closes off the EP with a love song that finds him pining for the attention of his love interest on “WISH I KNEW”.
