Benny Greb

About Benny Greb

German drummer and clinician Benny Greb is a technically adroit, in-demand performer with a bent toward genre-bending jazz and rock. Along with touring and recording, he is also a dedicated educator, having held positions at the Hamburg School of Music, the Popakademie in Mannheim, the Popkurs of the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg, and the Bandcamp of the Bayerische Musikakademie Hammelburg. Born in Augsburg, Germany in 1980, Greb first began playing drums around age six and started formal lessons at age 12. Initially interested in punk, he quickly immersed himself in sophisticated forms of jazz and rock, skills he honed at university in Augsburg and Hamburg. Since graduating, he has accumulated an impressive array of credits, including appearances with Stoppok, Ron Spielman, Sabri Tulug Tirpan, Jerobeam, Bobby McFerrin, Wayne Krantz, Strom & Wasser, and others. As a leader, he debuted in 2005 with Grebfruit, followed in 2009 by Brass Band. He returned four years later with Two Day Trio. The studio album Moving Parts appeared in 2014, followed two years later by a concert version, Moving Parts Live. In 2017 he delivered Grebfruit 2, a companion album to his debut. ~ Matt Collar
