About BOØWY

BOØWY’s founding members met when their former bands took first and second place in a local music competition. ∙ Rolling Stone Japan named 1986’s Just a Hero one of the 100 Greatest Japanese Rock Albums of All Time. ∙ Their success helped drive the “band boom” period in the ’80s and ’90s when rock groups dominated the Japanese music scene. ∙ Released in 2013, The Best “Story” became the only album other than The Beatles’ 1 to top the charts two decades after a band’s breakup. ∙ After hearing the song in a Japanese film, Quentin Tarantino asked to use guitarist Hotei’s “Battle Without Honor or Humanity” in Kill Bill Vol. 1. ∙ David Bowie invited Hotei to join him onstage at Budokan to perform “All the Young Dudes” when he saw the guitarist rehearse for his opening set.
