About (G)I-DLE
(G)I-DLE refuse to be siloed into any societal norms. It starts with the name—the “(G)” in the K-pop girl group’s name stands for “girl” but is pronounced silently, a reflection of the Seoul-based quintet’s aim to be known beyond their public-facing identity. (G)I-DLE’s bold, defiant pop music shatters expectations with every release, whether through the gender-rebellious rock of “TOMBOY” or the booming electro-house anthem “Super Lady”. Taking inspiration from feminist icons both historical and fictitious, (G)I-DLE—Miyeon, Minnie, Soyeon, Yuqi and Shuhua—both poke fun at and confront public perceptions of femininity. Since debuting in 2018 with the tropical pop single “LATATA”, (G)I-DLE have released music reclaiming bimbo identities in the sassy-cute “Queencard” and channelling Marilyn Monroe’s unabashed sexuality in the burlesque-tinged “Nxde”. And in the studio, (G)I-DLE stand out among their peers—Soyeon, the group’s fierce leader and rapper, writes and produces the majority of (G)I-DLE’s catalogue, developing new music, visuals and thematic concepts with her fellow members’ personalities in mind.
