About Johannes Pramsohler

With his elegant, crisp playing style and reverence for history, it’s no surprise that Baroque violinist Johannes Pramsohler boasts a musical background rooted in academic rigour and performance experience. Born in 1980 in South Tyrol, Italy, the Paris-based musician studied at prestigious institutions, including the London Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Salzburg’s Mozarteum University, and later earned a PhD in Historically Informed Performance from the Royal Academy of Music. This work has allowed Pramsohler to teach master classes around the world and has informed his tenure as a soloist with Baroque orchestras, guest conductor for a French production of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas (1689) and guest concertmaster for other troupes. In 2008, he founded—and later became the artistic director of—the Baroque chamber music group Ensemble Diderot, with whom he has collaborated on multiple collections of concertos and sonatas, in addition to contributing thoughtful and trenchant violin performances. One of his most cutting-edge endeavours is a video-augmented take on Bach’s Musical Offering (1747) that gives audiences an immersive classical experience.
