Sonny Burgess

Singer and guitarist Sonny Burgess was one of the iconic figures of rockabilly. Burgess -- along with Carl Perkins, Warren Smith, and others -- helped create the rockabilly style, mixing barroom country with a rock & roll backbeat and a switchblade swagger. As one of the original artists to record for Sam Phillips' legendary Sun Records, Burgess rubbed elbows with such towering rock & roll figures as Roy Orbison and Jerry Lee Lewis. Typifying the image of the lean, mean rockabilly cat, he continued to perform to enthusiastic crowds following a career resurgence in the 1990s. ~ TiVo Staff
